The San Diego Chapter of Sigma Xi annual Awards Banquet will be held on Thursday, May 26th from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sufi Mediterranean restaurant, located at 5915 Balboa Avenue, San Diego, 92111. Plenty of free parking, and centrally located. The Mediterranean / Persian buffet costs $22 per person, and RSVPs will be appreciated. Local student winners, selected by the Chapter, from the 2016 60th annual Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair will bring their posters, and be given Sigma Xi certificates and cash. Also, our honored guest speaker is Dr Rob Edwards who runs the bioinformatics lab at SDSU. His talk is titled, “A globally distributed virus is present in half the people in the world!” Mark your calendar for an evening of Persian food, five bright students, an engaging speaker, and if you arrive early there is a full market next door filled with Greek, Persian, and Turkish dates, jams, olives, spices, teas, etc.
