Evolution of Surgical Practice: Robots, Ablation, and Image-Guided and Minimally Invasive Procedure

When:  Apr 16, 2019 from 19:30 to 20:30 (MT)
Speaker: Bradly J. Narr, M.D. – Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine

Bradly J. Narr, MD, received the Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and the Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota. At the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, he completed a residency in internal medicine (1980-1983) and immediately after, a residency in anesthesiology. Dr. Narr was appointed to the Mayo Clinic faculty in 1985 and has had any clinical and leadership roles during his 34 year career.

Dr. Narr started the Preoperative Evaluation Clinic at Mayo Clinic in 1996. He was chair of the Department of Anesthesiology from 2005 to 2016. For the past 18 years, he has been involved in leadership of the surgical practice, culminating in serving as chair of the Surgical and Procedural Committee for all Mayo Clinic campuses. Through these leadership roles, he has gained detailed knowledge of advances in surgical equipment, techniques, and surgical facilities.

Dr. Narr’s presentation, “Evolution of Surgical Practice: Robots, Ablation, and Image-Guided and Minimally Invasive Procedures” is a collage of advanced surgical and procedural techniques in various surgical and radiologic specialties. Dr. Narr is grateful that most of these techniques still require anesthetic care. These advances are especially important for our rapidly aging population with an increasing prevalence of chronic disease, and the future is exciting to anticipate.
