    NOTICE OF POLICY AMENDMENT

    RE: Ranked Order Voting

    On September 11, 2023, Sigma Xi's Board of Directors approved the recommendation from the Committee on Nominations to implement Ranked Choice Voting for officers. The recommendation requires an amendment to the Bylaws III, Section 3(C) Voting. The amendment is proposed as follows:

    Original Bylaw (Bylaws III, Section 3(C)):

    Voting. Voting for officers shall be by ballot, which may be electronic. Each active full and associate member shall have one vote. The vote shall be completed within one month of the Assembly of Delegates.  

    Amended Bylaw (amended text in blue):

    Voting. Voting for officers shall be by ballot, which may be electronic. Each active full and associate member shall have one vote. The vote shall be completed within one month of the Assembly of Delegates. In the case of three or more candidates for a particular office, the election will be conducted using instant runoff voting according to these guidelines:

    1.    The ballot shall give voters the option of ranking candidates in order of preference.

    2.    If a candidate receives a majority (over 50 percent) of first preferences, that candidate is elected.

    3.    If no candidate receives a majority of first preferences, an instant runoff retabulation shall be performed by the elections committee within five business days of the election.  The instant runoff retabulation shall be conducted in rounds.  In each round, each voter's ballot shall count as a single vote for whichever continuing candidate the voter has ranked highest.  The candidate with the fewest votes after each round shall be eliminated until one candidate receives a majority (over 50 percent) of the votes and is elected.

    This notice serves as the 30-day comment period for chapters to review the amended Conduct Review Policy beginning October 2, 2023 and ending on November 2, 2023.

    Well, as long as you are sending us all e-mails about the Sigma Xi Meeting, can you send us the Registration information?  I know it's on your Website, but we'd sure like to know if there will be Virtual Attendance option.  Can we attend via Zoom, or must attendance be in person for our Chapter to remain in good standing?
