  • 2020 UC Sigma Xi Award Applications Now Available

    Dear Sigma Xi Colleagues,

Seasons Greetings!  We are ready to accept nominations for the three Sigma Xi award opportunities through UC's local chapter.   They include:

The 2020 Sigma Xi Young Investigator Award
This highly competitive annual award, presented in conjunction with the Office of the Vice President for Research, recognizes a junior faculty member (< 12 years since PhD) at UC for their early career distinguished research accomplishments in a field of science or engineering appropriate to Sigma Xi.

The 2020 Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research (GIAR) Award
Graduate students may use the $2,500 funds for travel expenses to and from a research site, to present research results at a national science or engineering meeting, or for purchase of consumable research materials and supplies or non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.

The 2020 Sigma Xi Excellence in Outreach Award
This (new, since 2016) award will honor an outstanding undergraduate, graduate student or post-doc who instills in K-12 or the greater community an excitement and understanding about the sciences (including ethics in science, science philosophy, etc.), mathematics, engineering or technology.

You can find the application forms and instructions on the Chapter Website.   Completed nominations are due to me, Friday, January 24th, 2020.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Kind regards,
    Margaret
