HELP WANTED!
As an inactive Member of Sigma Xi, you are in a position to help the UF Chapter of the Society of the Sigma Xi, the International Research Science and Engineering Honor Society. Our Chapter has been very active on the University of Florida campus and the Santa Fe College campus offering seminars, scientific field trips, scholarships for students, and annual awards and recognition of outstanding research faculty and graduate students. But we really need you. There are several ways you can make a difference.
First, we invite you to re-consider your membership status and convert back to an active member. We need you to attend our Sigma Xi seminars. We need you to help network with our graduate student members and new faculty members, nominating them for Membership. You have the knowledge and expertise to help guide our newest generation of scientific scholars and they need you.
You can renew your membership by going to https://www.sigmaxi.org/members/renew or by contacting me directly. When renewing, please be sure to include the $8.00 for our local chapter dues. When you were originally initiated into the Society, you joined a distinguished group of scientists and engineers who have beneficially influenced human history – refer to the National website at https://www.sigmaxo.org/about/history for details, including a long list of your fellow Members who are Nobel Laureates.
The Executive Council of the UF Chapter is working across campuses to enhance opportunities for you to engage with your colleagues in other disciplines. We feel that interdisciplinary academic contact is beneficial as well as enjoyable. Please join us by renewing your membership today.
Our next seminar is Tuesday November 29, 2016 in room 330G Reitz Union at 4:00pm. Dr. Pam Soltis will speak on “Big Data, Biodiversity, and Conservation”. A reception will follow at 5:00pm. We will be looking for you there!
